Long story short

Handheld software to support the success of sales reps and technicians

Too much time and energy was being lost for ComAp while collecting data and presenting portfolios to customers; and as a global market leader in energy management systems, efficiency is key. Together, we simplified and streamlined the entire process with an intuitive application.

Our solution is being implemented on tablets out in the field, as well as on Windows in the office. Now that there's a simple, more organized way to interact with ComAp's services, business is booming.

Thanks to our solution, technical blueprints for power systems can be designed and presented to the client out in the field.

Challenge & Solution

Energy management is intricate and complex, but we were up for the challenge. First, we had to understand exactly how ComAp's products worked within the system. With different rules and recommendations for components and locations, the redesign of the workflow needed truly streamlined. We aimed for a guided user experience so that product configuration would be pleasantly simple.

Our solution, the ComAp Design Studio, is a custom-built, multi-platform application. It is used to design technical blueprints for power systems, simulate system states and generate 2D and 3D diagrams. Thanks to a Design Studio Wizard, the app can automatically determine which products are needed to manage the backup systems properly. Tailored for use on iOS, Android, and Windows platforms, our software supports seamless sharing between workstations with a range of devices.

Making of

Many hours were devoted to crucial client workshops, where each feature was carefully analyzed with the needs and behavior of the user in mind. We didn't rest until we had developed a comprehensive, user-friendly final solution that delighted our partner.

Creating this custom software strengthened our confidence in using an iterative, agile approach to development. It allowed us to continually refine and improve the software. We find it effective for tackling complex projects like this Design Studio.

Technology

The success of this solution relied greatly on the Unity engine, which we pride ourselves on having mastered. With an abundance of 2D/3D objects and graphics, and our partner's desire for a cross-platform solution, we realized straight away that Unity would be the right technological fit for this project.

Working with Unity made it possible for our team to develop both iOS and Android applications as well as a Windows installation using a single source code. Now, ComAp has the ability to run its custom Design Studio on any platform.
