Secure, apps to keep citizens informed of the state of the world

For Radio Free Europe, we put our heads together to develop a smarter news application for providing uncensored global news. Ensuring secure communication with the outside world poses significant challenges, but we successfully implemented a censorship bypass solution.

Together, we made it possible to distribute independent news to over 20 countries worldwide. We are proud to have played a part in such an impactful project.

The layout of the app is designed to be clean and organized, allowing users to easily navigate and consume content without unnecessary distractions.

Challenge & Solution

The main challenges of this project included ensuring secure communication, managing data privacy, implementing robust integration with the external system, allowing for cross-platform compatibility, and managing updates. Therefore, the project had to be approached from many different angles.

First, we made the app uncensorable by governments and other authorities. Second, we ensured all data is handled securely since the app collects and handles sensitive user information. Third, to efficiently retrieve and process data from the external system, we made a stable and reliable integration. Fourth, the app was made compatible with a range of devices to reach the widest audience. Lastly, maintenance was set up for updates and bug fixes.

Making of

To develop a solution that made our team proud and our partner impressed, we first clearly mapped out the project goals and requirements. We defined the target audience, the countries where the app would be available, and the types of featured news content.

The app was tested on various devices and operating systems to ensure that everything runs smoothly. To function correctly, it must be able to retrieve and process data from the external system. Following thorough testing, we identified and fixed any issues which arose after reviewing user feedback.

Technology

We are proud to have delivered a multilevel software solution for both iOS and Android devices. The tech for this project included Swift and Kotlin for the two different platforms.

With finely-tuned code, the app can be easily duplicated for integration into other Radio Free Europe branches around the globe. This project demonstrates our commitment to delivering high-quality and reliable technology with innovation at the forefront.

Designed to be versatile, the app was made available across a wide range of devices including smartphones, tablets, and even TVs. A seamless and consistent experience is provided across all platforms.
