Long story short

The launch of entertaining digital installations with interactive games.

Czech lottery giant, Sazka, approached us to create a unique experience for their customers and “Lucky Cafés” came to be! Housed inside giant coffee cups, a set of screens with hands-free Kinect technology is spicing up coffee breaks.

Upon entering, a visitor embarks on a quest using gestures and movements. After participating, happy customers receive scratch cards and café vouchers.

A trifold interactive screen was placed inside a giant coffee cup for customers to explore at the café bar.

Challenge & Solution

Combining both software and hardware presents specific challenges. To design a touch-less interface for the Kinect sensor, several mini-games were created that focused intensively on user experience. A scratch card printer with specific security protocol was also integrating into the café CMS.

Ensuring all elements performed cohesively required thoughtful planning with a high attention to detail. Despite the obstacles, we successfully delivered a unique and engaging experience for Sazka customers.

Making of

The project had several phases that included building a wooden prototype of a human-sized cup, testing various LED and TV technologies, and conducting A/B testing for the games.

Time was spent running tests to ensure an error-free system, able to handle continuous daily use. With a phased approach, we carefully fine-tuned each aspect of the software and produced a reliable installation.

Technology

We developed “Lucky Cup” with different technologies including our very own, QUNITY. The Unity 3D gaming engine was used to build the interactive experience and Kinect technology is blended in for motion tracking and gesture recognition.

Additionally, a special printer was used to create 2D-QR codes. They unlock features and bonuses, adding another layer of excitement. As a result, user interaction became intuitive and Sazka launched a truly unique experience.
